FINAL VERSION OF ABANDONED TITLE SEQUENCE

We made some changes

After watching our updated title sequence multiple times, we all came to the agreement that the nursery rhyme didn't work as it was too fast and sounded too happy. However, we wanted to keep the nursery rhyme in the sequence so we re-recorded it to make it slower and more creepy and disturbed child-like.

We again put effects onto the audio to make the audience feel uncomfortable when listening to it, just like we want as it's a horror genre. We thought that the effects were successful in doing this.

Re-edited Title Sequence

This is the updated version of our title sequence. After considering all the feedback we added new typography, new colour, new positioning, and added a nursery rhyme. When adding the nursery rhyme we put some effects onto the sound and made it sound creepy and uncomfortable. We thought this sounded good as we thought it worked well with our genre.


      

Updates

After getting feedback about our title sequence from the class, we began to look at different fonts we could use and which sounds we could add in to make it sound creepier.
We began looking on dafont.com and we found some potential fonts such as Supernatural Knight.

Once we put Supernatural Knight onto the title sequence we decided that it was too boring and we wanted something more eerie and a font which highlights our genre better.
We then discussed different ideas about the sound e.g. Giggling, singing, whispering etc. and we then decided to bring back our original idea about a nursery rhyme and decided to do that.
We also moved some of the text around as the feedback stated that it wasn't positioned as well as it could and we also changed the order the credits came up as because they were in the wrong order.

More Feedback

We presented our title sequence to the class and they gave us feedback on it which are the following:

Overall, I think that the feedback was mostly positive as they pointed out the good parts and we got 3 stars from the majority. However, the negative points are fair as we agreed on some of them. For example, on more than one feedback sheet, the camera movement/shake/zooms are mentioned and we are aware of them and we tried to cover them up by teaching ourselves to overlap on final cut pro and put more effects on so they wouldn't seem as painful to watch. Our typography was also an issue as the class thought it was too blurry and not the right colour or position. We must also change what order our credits come up in and we need to fade out our foley sound better. We plan to make improvements wherever we can and hopefully when we next present our title sequence to the class, it'll be a complete success. 

Post Production

We had a lot of trouble getting all of our title sequence edited and finished in time to show it due to lack of time, the servers being down and it not saving multiple times. However, after we stayed behind after school and working hard in study periods we finally got it done ready to show. I am personally extremely proud of it and I think it's successful and I think we stayed true to the storyboards and our original idea and vision. However, we did change certain things, such as the nursery rhyme in the background. When we eventually put the nursery rhyme on the video, we thought that instead of making the title sequence more creepy and eerie, the rhyme made it cheesy and it just didn't work. We did make significant changes from our storyboards as we cut many shots out including a shot about a foot in the stream because we realised that it didn't look good.

Typography

We decided on the font 'Nervous' for our title sequence as we thought that it would be most appropriate. We liked the way it looked and we also decided to use it in red to connote horror and danger. 

We also looked at other fonts such
as: Nightbird and Feast of Flesh.

However we decided that these looked
too amateur and cheap.

Problems and successes during production

Before we broke up from school we had intended to book out a camera and tri-pod so we could film during the christmas break, but we forgot. This was problematic as none of us knew whether or not we could find some from home. Luckily, we found a camera and tri-pod so we were then ready to go out and shoot.

We searched the copyright free music website and listened to the ones which came under our specific genre and we then narrowed it down to four potential soundtracks for our title sequence.

Production

During the Christmas break we started and finished filming our title sequence, we got in all done on a very cold, long, stressful day. We had made sure that we had all the equipment we needed, such as camera, tri-pod, extra water for the stream and more. As we got to the Woods, we realised that we didn't need the extra water as we found a usable stream and instead used the water to clean off our muddy boots.      ---->
We also faced a lot of problems when it came down to burning the dolls house and pictures but eventually we resolved the issue by moving into a less windy area. Filming in the woods was quite eventful as we faced the issues of  how to get the right shot. We often referred back to our storyboards when we couldn't remember what to do.

More Opening Sequence Progress

 We have finally finished building and painting our dolls house and are in the process of creating a pre-production video to show our progress, which we will upload to our blogs. During the Christmas break we plan to film all of our title sequence, ready to edit and complete when we get back in time for the deadline of January 28th.
We've listened to some music and narrowed it down to four tracks which we are considering to use for our title sequence.

Title sequence pre-production: Making the dolls house

We were so wrong.

The dolls house arrived in a smaller package than originally expected and we began to worry about how long it would take us to build it. We unpacked it and we then realised how hard it was going to be and how stressed it was going to make us. However, even with some help from teachers and after having many of our friends complimenting the house, we were making progress and it was starting to look like a house rather than just pieces of thin model wood. Once it was all together we got together and decided that we needed to glue it all together with wood glue and a hot glue gun also. For double the sturdiness as it wasn't very stable. We then all decided on the colour scheme we wanted and which would look best. We settled on a dull colour scheme of grey, black and blues. But, we did want to foreshadow death and horror so we put some red/burgundy on it too.

We split the questions out equally within our group and we haven't received the other questions back, that's why it's not finished. 

Title sequence pre-production: The dolls house

We had the idea of having a burning dolls house in our title sequence as we thought it would be good to foreshadow our plot and to overall make the title sequence a little bit more realistic and unsettling. After discussing this idea amongst the group, we were all very keen on doing it. As we shared this idea, both teachers and students were talking to us realistically and we then realised the risk we would be taking and the pressure to make sure we got in all on camera.

However, we were all still very keen on the idea and we all decided that we would shoot the footage on multiple cameras to ensure that we got it all. We then searched the internet for a decent dolls house as none of us had one to burn. We would see amazing ones but they were all way too expensive for us to just burn and never use. After a while, we found a suitable one during the lesson and we decided to buy it. Just before we did so, we saw that we had to build it ourselves - but we thought ''how hard could it be to build a dolls house between four of us?'' and bought it anyway.

Opening Sequence Progress

At the moment, I feel as though our work is going well. After the panic of thinking we wouldn't be able to complete the pitch idea under pressure and in time to present it, we successfully pitched our film. After we were given feedback about our pitch, we made improvements and were happier about it. We are now on our way to creating our title sequence.

We made an audience profile, however we struggled because we were unsure about how to do it correctly and what to actually include. Then to help us think of different ideas for our sequence we created a brainstorm and then decided on the best ideas. 

We've already begun discussing ideas for the sequence and also creating some storyboards for it.
